I’ve been in universities since 1988. They have become superb at OBFUSCATION of their processes. The Fair Work Commission alone has an archive of evidence thus, along with every state and the new federal ombuds. Universities are significant players in what is beyond their ‘gates’, not just because of their huge investment in horrifically unethical ‘industries’, but because they are public institutions with a mission of social and public good. I wish I understood why so many brilliant people are stretching so hard to minimise and excuse the failures of leadership and mission which long post-date government ‘tinkering’; why would govts need to interfere when VCs’ unelected executives (not Academic Boards or Councils) are doing the job from within.

Thank you Steven.

This is what happens when the philosophy of a 'no consequence' education, from pre-school to university graduation is given free reign (It has also been expressed in the family unit). Both demonstrate that without learned consequences, guardrails, limits and cautions the developing human suffers a moral disability and a crisis of courage. The last 50 years of 'relativism' becoming the new new religion in academia and on campus has led to this. These people can no longer honestly see and understand anything outside the bubble - ivory towers indeed.

The current VCs and others in admin now a result of the beginnings of that pernicious, Marxist infection and, like an insurance company, will default to take the path of less (perceived) risk. Cowardice isn't taught - its absorbed by osmosis under the conditions in place today. The language used, the posturing and the escape clauses in evidence are all testament to that cowardly approach. It has infected all levels of government, education and society, it has become ingrained and 'normal' and as such is a massive problem to challenge and take down.

The vice-chancellors may have 'compassion', but they sure don't have spines or moral fiber and because of this they shame us all.
