The US Headstart program immediately comes to mind as an example of a program that via an early education intervention, including both the children and their parents, had long-term beneficial effects on educational outcomes, etc.

Back in the "90s, an academic friend at QUT had two students there becaise of some such scheme. They were totally oit of their depth, she gave them extra titotials to no avail, they felt crushed with their inability to handle the course. Not a good idea. (QUT has gone downhill since, I was asked to take part in research which to me proved absurd.)
