I suspect that a return to a purely classical education system is about as likely as the USA's successful return to Trump's favoured 1890s gilded age or our imminent return to fabled Paradise. I've completed courses in Latin at high school and at university, and would not be that excited by the prospect of a new crop of students having to imbibe Latin rules of declension, in addition to everything else being thrown at them. I suspect that students are fated to continue embracing successive new ages of culture and that the current postmodern culture will soon enough be regarded as old hat. That is, the bogey person here isn't postmodern culture but rather our fear of even more change. That aside, in every era, including the present, Intelligent, caring, well-trained teachers are the most probable conduit by which improved educational outcomes can be achieved (Finally, there is nothing quite as satisfying as a well mixed metaphor).
It is perhaps interesting to note that the Sydney based Campion outfit has close links to both Opus Dei and the Heritage Foundation. As does the US Hillsdale College.
As indeed does the now notorious 2025 Project the principal movers and shakers of which are high level opus dei operatives.
It is also interesting to note that J D Vance is a very enthusiastic member of opus dei too.
As a former president of Campion I can tell you that the college has no links at all with Opus Dei. We had two members of staff during my time that were associates of OD, but we also had members of both the Labor and Liberal parties. So what?
I liked this article very much, but I guess I'm terribly biased! Thank you Steven.
I studied Classics, and still love it, so this would be music to my ears, but I’m less optimistic about it than you.
